Finding Rest for Your Soul
By Lindsay Roberts
In Matthew 11: 28-30, Jesus said, “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you, and learn from Me. For I am meek and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light.”
With all we’ve been through in the last few years, I believe it’s time for us to have a light burden, like Jesus said, as we place our burdens on Him. He said we could cast our cares on Him, for He cares for us (1 Peter 5:7).
To cast actually means to heave it, to throw it, to pitch it. Isn’t it time for us to walk in all that God has for us? Isn’t it time to, “Arise, shine, for thy light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon us” (Isaiah 60:1).
I believe it’s time for us to arise, for as Isaiah says, “For your light has come.” And the glory of the Lord is shining on us. That’s my prayer for you, that’s my hope for you.
The other day as I was getting ready to go to sleep, I always pray for my family. And even after I pray for them, I like to text a prayer to them. I also love to send silly jokes to my kids. I had no idea a joke I sent was going to turn into something like a prophetic vision, but it did.
I sent: “Why did the egg put his left leg in? To do the yolky pokey!” And: “What do you call a mischievous egg? A practical yolker.” And finally: “What do you call an egg white with cowboy boots? A western omelet!” And my kids are sending back, the little eye roll emojis! Little did I know that this was about to turn into an unusual prophetic vision. But it did.
And all of a sudden, as I was starting to drift off to sleep, I saw the clearest picture of my Grandpa Charlie who was, what I would call, “a horse whisperer ” because of his amazing ability to train horses. Now my grandfather has been in heaven for many, many years. And all of a sudden I saw his hallway wall which contained the yokes that he had used to train animals. And Y-O-L-K like my yolk jokes, turned into Y-O-K-E.
Clearly, I was remembering how many times he said to me, “Don’t ever be unevenly yoked.” And, in my dream I thought of the scripture where Jesus said, “Take my yoke upon you. My yoke is easy, my burden is light. Come unto me, all you are heavy laden.”
And I remembered what Grandpa Charlie said about a yoke. He said one Clydesdale horse can usually carry about 8,000 pounds. But if you put them next to another Clydesdale, and they’re evenly yoked, they can do four times more. That’s 32,000 pounds, as opposed to 8,000 pounds! And he said, “You know, it’s the equivalent of literally carrying four times the load. But if the yoke is uneasy, if it doesn’t fit, it will injure the animals, especially the stronger one moving forward. ”
As I thought about that, all of a sudden, instead of the Y-O-L-K jokes, where “the yolks on you”, I saw Y-O-K-E, and the yoke is on Him…Jesus.
We are supposed to come unto Him, especially if we’re burdened and heavy laden, and He said He would give us rest. And He said, “Take my yoke upon you, for my yoke is easy.” It means it fits, “and my burden is light.”
Now I want to ask you a question. Have you come to Jesus with a yoke that’s easy? Does it fit? Is your burden light, or are you heavy laden? Jesus said “I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, learn from me, for I’m gentle and humble in heart. You will find rest for your soul.” What is your soul? It’s your mind, your will, and your emotions.
But the first step is up to us. We have to make the choice to come to Him. And then, Psalm 55:22 says, “Cast your burden on me.” And remember what cast means? It means to throw it off.
So let’s do just that. Let’s come to Jesus and cast our burdens on Him.
Right now, in the name of Jesus, I pray for God to heal you. I pray for Satan to take his hands off of you. I pray for the balm of Gilead to repair whatever the devil has taken out of you, your family, your finances, your ministry, whatever it is, and for God to arise, and enemies scatter, and for God to bring healing and wholeness to you in every way. In Jesus’ name, amen.
