Getting in Position to Receive a Miracle
By Richard Roberts
People often ask me what they can do to receive a miracle. And if you are in that position today — whether you need healing, finances, divine direction, restoration in relationships, job opportunities, or a breakthrough in some other area — this message is for you. I believe the key is getting in a position to receive what Jesus has already purchased.
You see, you can’t earn a miracle. But you can get yourself in the right position — spiritually, mentally, and even practically — to receive what you are believing for in faith. When Jesus went to the cross, He paid the price once and for all for salvation, healing, peace, restoration and so much more.
So, to help get in position to receive, here are five things you can do:
1. Get into the Word of God to Strengthen Your Faith
Your faith grows when you feed it. You have faith — Romans 12:3 tells us that God has given to every man the measure of faith. What you do with that faith can make all the difference. You can feed it with the Word of God, or you can hinder it through negative thoughts and influences.
If all you’re focusing on is bad news, negative reports, financial pressure, and negative talk, your faith can be hindered. But when you get into God’s Word, something starts to rise up inside you. When your faith rises up, it becomes a stabilizing force, a foundation for peace, and a confidence in God’s faithfulness to fulfill His promises.
Faith comes by hearing — and hearing by the Word of God (Romans 10:17). Your faith is a key to overcoming the obstacles you face in life. First John 5:4 says, …And this is the victory that has overcome the world — our faith.
2. Speak to The Problem Instead of Just Speaking About It
This is a big one. Now, I’m not telling you to deny what’s going on. I’m telling you, don’t give power to it through your words.
God has given you the authority to speak to the problems in your life. In John 16:24, Jesus said, Until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.
When Satan attacks your life or your family, don’t add your agreement to his lies. Take a stand against those attacks by speaking the truth of God’s Word and using the authority He gave you.
Mark 11:23 says, For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says.
3. Get Rid of Unforgiveness
Unforgiveness can hold you back in unimaginable ways. Holding on to hurt, anger, and bitterness can even block what God wants to do in a person’s life.
You may have heard of Nelson Mandela’s story. After unjustly spending many years in prison in South Africa, he was finally released. As he walked out of prison into his freedom, he realized something: If he held onto bitterness and unforgiveness, even though he was physically free, he would still be in prison on the inside.
So, he made the decision to forgive. Not because what happened to him was right, but because he refused to stay bound by it.
People often think they’re holding on to something someone else did — but I believe that thing is holding on to them. That’s why forgiveness is so important. It’s not just about the other person. It’s about your freedom.
You can say, “Lord, I choose to forgive. I let it go.” When you forgive, something begins to break loose on the inside. You may have to say it more than once. I say forgiveness isn’t a feeling. It’s a choice.
4. Don’t Let Circumstances Shake You
There will be moments when it looks like nothing is happening. Or even worse — it looks like things are going the wrong direction. But don’t panic. Don’t be moved by what you see in the natural.
We walk by faith, not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7). God is often working behind the scenes, preparing the way and setting you up for victory. Just because you don’t see it yet doesn’t mean God isn’t working.
Temporary circumstances are often used by the enemy to discourage you and get you to give up on your faith. But don’t give up. Don’t stop believing.
Remember God’s promises. Remember His faithfulness and all the times He has come through for you in the past.
5. Expect a Miracle
Something I’ve learned over the years is that expectation can set the stage for miracles. When you start expecting God to move, it can change how you think, how you talk and how you live. When you expect a miracle, you can stand looking for the answer to appear, and you recognize it when it comes.
Expectation is tied to relationship. When you know that God is good, that He loves you and that He is your Source, you can expect good things from Him.
Some miracles come instantly while others take time. There may be times when you feel worn down or you feel like giving up, but that’s not the time to give up. Your miracle may be closer than you think — so keep expecting!
As you follow these five points, I believe you can get yourself in position — through faith, His Word, obedience, forgiveness and expectation — to receive the miracle you need.
