God’s Good Plan for You
By Lindsay Roberts
During one of the times Richard and I were praying together, he said, “Lord, I ask You to bless my plan concerning this…” and all of a sudden, he stopped. I looked at him and said, “What’s wrong? ”
He said, “Well, I asked God to bless my plans.”
I said, “Okay.”
And he said, “I felt it in my heart, God said, ‘Why don’t you get on My plan? It’s already blessed.” First of all, why didn’t we think of that? And second of all, what a concept!
In Acts, the second chapter, the disciples were up in what’s called the upper room, and they were all coming together to pray and to seek God’s answers and direction. As they were in unity, God poured out His Spirit. Peter preached a message, and after that 3,000 people came to Jesus! That’s amazing. How did it happen?
My thought is unity. They got in one accord, the Bible says.
Do you know how many revivals broke out when people began to pray in unity? The Welsh revival happened in 1904. God used a man named Evan Roberts. Richard visited that area where the Welsh revival was and stood by the statue of Evan Roberts. The best that we can trace back Oral Roberts’ family, his roots, his Welsh heritage traces all the way back to that. Now, he is also Cherokee Indian. But his grandfather’s roots go back to the Welsh community and the Welsh revival, which we thought was amazing.
But how did that Welsh revival happen? I believe it started by praying in unity, praying in one accord, getting into agreement with God’s plan, getting into harmony with the plan.
The Bible says, “Many are the plans of a man’s heart, but it’s the purpose of God that prevails,” Proverbs 19:21. Proverbs 16:3 says, “Commit your works to the Lord, and your plans will be established.” Now, here’s Jeremiah 29:11. “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord…plans for you to prosper.”
Are you part of that prosperity gospel? Well yes because the Bible talks about prosperity. “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord. Plans for you to prosper and not to harm you.”
“Plans to give you a hope and a future.” Now, let’s think about that. In Jeremiah, the 29th chapter, the people of God were in captivity. They were in Babylon, and they were separated from their godly roots because of their disobedience.
God didn’t say, “I’m going to punish you to the ends of the earth. I’m going to get out my whipping stick and just punish you forever.” That’s not God. He said, “I know the plans I have for you. They’re plans for you to prosper and not to harm you. Plans to give you a hope and a future.”
When my kids were little and they were disobedient, I didn’t love them any less. No, I’m their mom. I wanted them to learn the right way, so they could have a hope and a future. God said, “I know the plans I have for you. They’re for your good and not for evil, to give you a hope and a future and plans for you to prosper.”
If you have missed it, so has everybody else. We’ve all sinned, and fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). So what does God say? I believe He is saying, in a sense, let’s start all over. Let Him give you plans for a hope and a future.
I love what it says in Proverbs 16:3, “Commit your works to the Lord, and your plans will be established.”
How many hours did I sit across the table from a man named Oral Roberts and watch how he planned a plan and obeyed God? And did he ever miss it? Of course. But if he listened to God and he acted on what God said, there was such a peace.
So I encourage you to ask God what is His plan for you: if it’s plans for children, if it’s plans for marriage, if it’s plans for a job, maybe a business, maybe a calling, maybe an idea. Ask and allow Him to steer the pathway and watch just how He can direct that path.
I pray for you today and believe that God has a plan for your future, a plan for you financially, and a plan for your physical body–and it’s a plan that’s for your good. I pray for you to prosper and be in health even as your soul prospers in every area of your life. In Jesus’ name, amen and amen.
