You are worth MORE than you think

By Lindsay Roberts

I was working on getting this magazine finished for November and December and was thinking about the many Christmas seasons I spent listening to the words of Oral Roberts and how influential they were to me. So I decided to go through older magazines and see if I could come up with a vintage retro article that would be something for our readers to enjoy.

In the process, I saw many stories and magazines that I had worked on and several that had existed before I was born. That’s when I came across a December 1954 magazine with a very insightful and almost prophetic word for today. The article was titled “Keeping Christ in Christmas” with a banner on the bottom that said Let’s Remember Whose Birthday Christmas Is. It not only caught my attention, but it fascinated me when I read certain words that I did not know Oral had been using at the time.

A couple of years ago, I was starting my podcast called, Entirely Unconventional with Lindsay Roberts. Towards the end of it, I began to talk about the value of human beings and how much we mean to God. Towards the end of the podcast, I found myself closing it out by saying that I believe you are worth more than you think and as a result of it, I’ve been saying it ever since.

However, when I was reading this 1954 Christmas article by Oral, as I looked at the points, I almost had a hard time reading the rest of the article because what he said literally jumped all over my spirit. One of the points he mentioned was about looking in the mirror because you’re worth more than you think! Two different things that he said in those few pages from 1954 were the exact words that the Lord has been speaking to me 70 years after Oral wrote those words!

Now as we approach Christmas 2024, those words still ring true. Not only do we see the revelations in the Bible more than 2000 years ago ringing true because of the birth of Jesus, but 70 years later, the words that God gave Oral Roberts are still ringing true that we are worth more than we think.

In John 3:16, scripture tells us that God so loved the world that He gave. And what did He give? He gave His only begotten Son that whoever would believe on him would not perish, but have everlasting life. For God did not send Jesus into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved (John 3:16,17). God loved us so much that He was willing to send Jesus, who left heaven to come to this earth, be rejected and despised, and eventually crucified in order to be the final, most important sacrifice for the sins of mankind. And because of it, we have the opportunity to have everlasting life in heaven and eternal life with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. But in addition to that, we have the opportunity for abundant life here on earth! 1 John 3:8 says For this purpose the son of God was made manifest that he might destroy the works of the devil. To me, that means anything that comes against you that Satan uses to steal, to kill, and to destroy, as the Bible calls it… has to obey the cross when we apply the blood of Jesus. Satan has no choice, but to honor the cross when we do. Although Satan doesn’t want to honor the cross, he has no choice when we act in faith because Philippians 2:9-11 says that the name of Jesus is above every name named in heaven and earth and at that name, everything else has to bow.

Satan is required to respond to the legal commands in the Bible and he knows the Word. James 4:7 says when we resist the devil, he must flee. But if we don’t know it and don’t know our value and our worth, and our scriptural rights, then Satan is not required to volunteer to back away. We must resist him in order for him to flee.

I spent many hours listening to Oral Roberts preach about the value God placed in His people. After many prophetic words from him, that teaching became a book I wrote called, Discover Your True Worth. When we discover our true worth and our value in Christ, I believe we can do all that God has called us to do and be all that God has called us to be.

So to quote Oral Roberts, I want you to look in the mirror and realize that you are worth more than you think. According to the Bible…

You are…
• the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus.
• a child of the most high God.
• joint heirs with Jesus.
• the head and not the tail, above and not beneath.
• entitled to the mind of Christ and the wisdom of Solomon.
• to be healed, whole and delivered by the blood of Jesus.
• to prosper, and be in health, even as your soul prospers.
• of God little children, and greater is He that’s in you than he that’s in the world.
• blessed and highly favored.
• entitled to live an abundant life on earth, and everlasting life with Him in Heaven!
